Because they just might be

Would you cancel an appointment with your best client?

Probably not.  So, why then, would you cancel a networking appointment?  I know the answer.  Because you think you can.  Sorry to say, you are wrong.

As the creator of GoGrabLunch.com I often take the time to accept or plan networking lunches through our site.  It helps me meet our members, obtain feedback on how the site is working for them, and helps me build relationships to help my business grow.

In the past few months I have had at least two members cancel confirmed lunches.  The reason?  “Something came up that I had to attend to”.  My personal opinion is that cancelling a networking opportunity is about as smart as cancelling an appointment with your best client.  Here’s why.

That networking opportunity could be the one that leads you to your next big client.

So, next time you think about shuffling your schedule make sure it is for a truly critical reason.  Like the birth of child.  If you don’t treat your networking activities as if you are three feet from gold, then all you will ever mine is copper.
